Price is usually the first question parents ask, and the hardest one to answer. Every preschool counts differently: lunch is included in one place and charged separately in another, and the number on the website often covers a different length of day than the one next to it.
In October we went through the published fees of twenty-five Prague preschools where English is part of the day rather than an after-school club. We only used what the schools publish themselves. Here is what came out.
The range is wider than most parents expect
Twenty of them publish a monthly fee. The lowest is 14,400 CZK, the highest 36,300 CZK. The middle of the range sits at 22,550 CZK.
That is a two-and-a-half-fold difference, and it does not separate good schools from bad ones. Both ends include registered preschools with native speakers. What differs is class size, location, length of day and what the fee covers.
Roughly, the market splits into three bands:
- under 20,700 CZK a month: smaller preschools and children’s groups, usually outside the centre
- 20,700 to 25,500 CZK: the largest group, the normal Prague price for five days a week with English
- above 25,500 CZK: wider programmes, smaller classes or a central address.
International schools play a different game
Five of the places in our list publish an annual fee rather than a monthly one: from 278,000 to 360,000 CZK a year. That works out at roughly 27,800 to 36,000 CZK a month, so the top end is close to the most expensive monthly-fee preschools.
The difference is what sits behind it. Annual fees usually come with registration charges from a few thousand to tens of thousands of crowns, with compulsory service packages, and with payment for the whole year in advance or in two instalments. At one school in the list, paying monthly costs 3.5% more than paying at once.
The fee is not the full price
This is where comparisons usually break down. Twenty-five preschools use five different ways of counting.
Meals. Included in some places, charged separately in others at 125 to 195 CZK a day. Over twenty days that is 2,500 to 3,900 CZK on top, which can be the entire difference between two preschools that looked identical at first glance.
Registration fee. A one-off or annual charge from 2,000 to 15,000 CZK. International schools tend to be at the higher end and sometimes add a non-refundable registration charge.
Length of day. The published number may cover a day ending at 15:00 or at 18:00. At two preschools in the list the shorter option costs 1,400 to 1,700 CZK less per month; elsewhere the gap is larger.
Number of months. One preschool charges eleven months a year instead of twelve, which changes the annual cost by a full month on its own.
Clubs and trips. Included in some places, extra in others. We did not collect a range, because most preschools do not publish it.
What to ask before you sign
Once you have narrowed it down to two or three places, ask all of them the same five questions. Only then do the numbers mean anything.
- Are meals included? If not, what is the daily charge.
- What length of day does the fee cover, and what does the longer option cost.
- Do you pay for twelve months or eleven.
- What is the registration fee and is it refundable.
- What else is charged during the year: clubs, trips, photography, events.
Write the answers side by side. A gap that looked like three thousand crowns often evens out once everything is added up, or turns out to be much larger.
Where we sit in this list
Opalinka charges 18,990 CZK a month at both sites, Flora and Letná. Among the twenty preschools with a monthly fee that is the fifth lowest; four are cheaper.
Meals are not included with us: they cost 135 CZK a day, and the registration fee is 4,000 CZK. We say so directly, because these are exactly the items that turn comparable numbers into incomparable ones.
The figures in this article come from public price lists published in October 2026. Fees change during the year: at some preschools the published rate covers the 2025/2026 school year, at others 2026/2027 or 2027/2028. Check the current price directly with the preschool before you decide.
